Seal 28 For Sale
With much regret I am having to prepare my Seal 28, Analie, for sale. Deteriorating health means I can no longer sail with confidence.
The Seal 28 is a sturdy 28 ft sailing cruiser, very stable in heavy weather, and straightforward to sail. The hand-cranked lifting keel makes it very easy to get out of trouble in uncertain waters, thus it is an ideal boat for a novice. With the lifting keel, auto-helm, and forgiving nature, the boat is ideal for single-handed sailing.
The boat has a conventional Bermuda rig with two point single line reefing on the mainsail, roller reefing on the headsail and a cruising chute and spinnaker pole. Analie has a custom-built, transom-hung daggerboard rudder operated by a wheel in the cockpit. Layout below decks consists of a double cabin at the bow, head with wash-hand basin, main cabin sleeping two, cooker and sink, nav table, various lockers, and aft cabin with further sleeping for two or considerable storage space. The boat will not remain upright when taking the ground, but Analie has a substantial pair of professionally made yacht legs which can be deployed in minutes to allow her to dry out remaining perfectly upright and stable on a variety of surfaces.
The original engine was replaced about twelve years ago with a 20 HP Yanmar diesel, at which point the prop shaft was also replaced and the boat fitted with a feathering MaxProp propeller. There is a diesel heater although I generally do not use this and have removed some of the trunking because it was taking up space in the lockers. Water is accessed from an 80-litre tank. The taps in the kitchen and head are operated by an electric pump. There is also a plastic 10 litre drinking water can feeding a hand-pumped tap on the kitchen sink.
Accessories include:
Garmin GPSmap 182C with repeater in the cockpit
Nexus NS2000 digital radio
ICOM IC-M31 hand-held VHS radio
Raymarine Autohelm
NASA depth sounder
TicTac masthead anemometer and wind direction indicator – currently not working – may be just jammed with bird droppings or may need replacing
Fairly new two-burner Dometic gas cooker, professionally installed
Avon 4-man inflatable dinghy with oars and outboard motor fitting
Yamaha 2.3 HP 4-stroke outboard motor
Anchor winch
Two anchors
Toe-rail ladder
Frame for a spray-hood
Fenders, warps, inflatable radar reflector, 7x50 binoculars, and numerous sheaves of different sizes.
Several life jackets
The boat is currently ashore at Bradwell Marina on the River Blackwater at Essex, and being worked on to clean and reseal the lifting keel. I am looking for offers in the region of £2,900. Please contact me at pnd.maggs at gmail.com
