Misadventure in the Roach
This article described an incident in which I managed to steer the boat belonging to my friends Cliff and Ewan on to a mudbank in the River Roach in Essex. It was particularly embarrassing because I did it very shortly after an abnormal high tide. Click below to read the article, Practical Boat Owner, pp 126 - 128, 498, June 2008

It is a truth universally acknowledged that bad news sells newspapers (and magazines). PBO were only too happy to publish the above account of our disastrous 12 hours aground on a mud flat. It is disappointing, therefore, to record, that an account of an almost perfect excursion we took about twelve months later was rejected by the same organ as being of no interest.
Well, it was an excellent trip, and the magic of websites allows me to bring it to your attention. Click below to read an account of our Triumph on the Swale.
